Dentsu Aegis Network opens its doors for Advertising Unlocked

On Friday 29 September offices from across Dentsu Aegis Network UK and Ireland opened up their doors to young talent as part of Advertising Unlocked. Alongside other agencies up and down the country, our offices in Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Manchester and Newcastle opened their doors to local students, giving them the chance to experience a taste of agency life.

Advertising Unlocked was a nationwide event coordinated by the IPA, who worked with agencies across the country to provide workshops and networking for anyone interested in finding out more about a career in advertising.

Across the offices we opted to work with schools local to us, giving students the chance to experience the breadth and depth of roles available within our brands – so no matter what their individual interests and talents, they could find out more about the roles that would suit them.

Here in Leeds the agency opened its doors to eager students wanting to learn more about the world of advertising and media. We were joined by GCSE students from Swallow Hill Community College, as well as two second year History of Art students from the University of York and The University of Leeds.

The morning started with an opening from Managing P​artner Dominic Geary, giving students an insight into our network and a brief introduction into how we innovate the way brand are built. Our product specialists then took to the floor to teach about the world of Programmatic, Analytics and CRO, Mobile and Content and Social.

In the Programmatic session, led by Amnet, the students learnt about the birth of Programmatic, what it is and how it has evolved, explaining how we are able to target people on a one-to-one basis, tailored to their wants and needs.

The Analytics and CRO session, delivered by iProspect, gave students an insight into the world of optimisation, illustrating how just a few tweaks can have a big impact in terms of conversion rates and sales for brands.

After a short break the students learnt about how advertisers use location tracking in the Mobile session – revealing exactly just how much your smart phone knows about you!

The last session of the day saw the students get creative during a Content and Social session with our Owned and Earned team, responding to a brief and sharing their ideas with the group. To finish the session our grads, interns and apprentices joined the students to give them insight to life at Dentsu Aegis Network.

At the end of the morning, our workshop leaders, apprentices and recent grads joined the attendees during a networking lunch, before having a quick whistle stop tour of the office.
