02/10/2017

On Friday 29 September offices from across Dentsu Aegis Network UK and Ireland opened up their doors to young talent as part of Advertising Unlocked. Alongside other agencies up and down the country, our offices in Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Manchester and Newcastle welcomed local students, giving them the chance to experience a taste of agency life.

Advertising Unlocked was a nationwide event coordinated by the IPA, who worked with agencies across the country to provide workshops and networking for anyone interested in finding out more about a career in advertising.

Here in Edinburgh the agency welcomed 24 eager students from Boroghmuir High School, wanting to learn more about the world of advertising and media.

The day started with an exciting introduction made by Carat Edinburgh’s Managing Director Chris Marsh, giving students an insight into our network and a brief introduction into how we innovate the way brand are built. Our product specialists then took to the floor to talk about the world of Audio visual, SEO and Content and Data and Planning.

In the Data and Planning session, Maddy Sim showed real life examples of how we use data to analyse customer’s behaviour and reach the right audience at the right time.

Colin Philip from our Owned and Earned team continued the day speaking to the students about SEO and Content. To help bring it to life, students were asked to complete a quiz on all things SEO.

After a short break Michael Courtney gave an overview on Audio Visual and its history, showcasing how much the channel changed over time from the first TV advertising campaign ever made, to futuristic VR trends shaping TV today.

At the end of the morning, our workshop leaders and grads joined the attendees during a networking lunch, before having a quick whistle stop tour of the office. All the students were fascinated by the exciting office environment. Of course, the favourites were the JK Rowling room and the Murray room where students played a couple of table tennis sets!
