At Carat, we believe that taking our social and environmental responsibility seriously will help us redefine media. This is because in today’s world our clients, our people and consumers alike are motivated by concerns beyond a narrow economic one.

The vision for our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Future Proof, is to not only become a more responsible business but also to inspire positive action by everyone we come into contact with and together redefine the value of media. Future Proof means doing the right thing in our day-to-day business. We have the scope and reach to make a positive impact on society using the power of advertising.

We want to play an active role in strengthening our communities and in preserving the environment where we operate. Every employee at Carat is entitled to two days per year to get involved in charitable work, and this year we have asked as many of our employees as possible to take up this opportunity and make a step change in the level of engagement we have as an agency towards CSR. In 2017, we volunteered over 2000 hours, supported ten charities, with over 160 Carat employees getting involved and making a difference. Here are some examples of how we are working with the community in London:

The CODEis the Dentsu Aegis Network’s secondary school and early careers programme. The CODE is focused on fostering Creativity, identifying Opportunities for future talent, encouraging Diversity and promoting Empowerment. Through the CODE we provided our people with the opportunity to work with partner schools close to our offices, supporting students aged 14-18 from all backgrounds to help them unlock their potential, open up a world of new opportunities and inspire them to make an impact of their own. Our people have run workshops in schools introducing students to the world of digital advertising and media and hosted insight days in our offices. They have also volunteered for mentoring and helped train teachers about the types of career opportunities in our industry and the routes their students can take. Across Dentsu Aegis Network we gave back over 2000 hours to partner schools in 2017 and in Carat, 16 of our people took the opportunity to develop themselves and support our ambitions around early level talent by volunteering in the schools.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES – we spent six days with them across 2017 working on various projects that included, helping with their Lambeth Palace fundraising event, performing at their annual carol service in Trafalgar square, general house maintenance and cooking for the families that are temporarily living there. 

AGE UK CAMDEN – 2016 kicked off our work with Age UK Camden, with a charity shop takeover which lead to us running monthly digital drop-in sessions for the elderly. Visitors of the centre can pop along and get some help with their technology requirements but also have a cup of tea with a friendly face! 

THE GREEN TEAM – we ran Carat’s first ‘Green Week’, which included a meat-free week, a make do and mend workshop, and a talk from the Green Party CEO on the major environmental issues, and the actions we can take as individuals and businesses to help. 

PROJECT DIRT DAYS – between June and September we work with a number of environmental charities on specific projects for individual teams/villages to get involved in (we ran nine separate days last year). 

VILLAGE FUNDRAISERS – every month an individual village will run a fundraising event for a charity of their choice.
