Carat is a proud partner of TEDxCapeTown

Carat is a proud partner of TEDxCapeTown. TEDx is an independent, international community that organises TED inspired events at a local level.

Embodying TED’s mission of “ideas worth spreading”, TEDxCapeTown gives a voice and a platform to local people whose ideas and work are re-inventing, challenging and redefining the status-quo.

As a company that’s goal is to “redefine media”, Carat has used this partnership to further entrench itself in the innovation space. Carat’s direction thrives on ideas that challenge and disrupt, therefore doing work for an organisation that cultivates these ideas embodies everything we stand for.

We, at Carat, had the opportunity to attend the recent TEDxCapeTown event. The theme of the day was Here to Listen/Hear to Listen and featured 21 speakers and artists who explored themes of communication, understanding, and exploring other perspectives.

Each speaker gave their own valuable and individual take on the theme.  Topics varied from understanding what drives us and how this shapes the world to being able to make sense from nonsense and even to how we can use technology to better understand and communicate with our bodies.

A few highlights for us were Anne Thistleton, a consumer marketing veteran with an MBA from Harvard, who spoke about how to be remembered and Ronak Gopaldas, the Head of Country Risk at Rand Merchant Bank, who spoke about understanding and embracing Africa beyond its binaries.

Overall the event was very successful and left people with a much deeper sense of what it means to listen to and understand, not only others, but yourself too.
