This month Carat UK will once encourage employees to prioritise health and wellbeing by putting on ‘Wellness Month,’ a four-week series of more than 50 different free activities and lectures.

“The success of our business depends on creating an environment where brilliantly talented people fully realise their potential, and no-one can do that unless they feel at their best, both emotionally and physically,” says Matthew Hook, managing director of Carat. “The digital economy has created amazingly exciting opportunities for businesses like ours, but we need to recognise that the environment in which we operate can be complex, demanding and sometimes stressful. Wellness Month is an opportunity for Carat to stop and reflect, ensure we are taking time to look after ourselves, and also to come together to do some really fun things together that help us to get to know each other better.”
February’s schedule includes everything one might expect (reflexology, yoga, Pilates, meditation, coached runs, an agency-wide table tennis competition, Reclaim Your Lunch Break sessions) and plenty one might not expect (rave-ercise, trapeze lessons, pole dancing, floristry lessons, a walking map to nearby art galleries and public spaces, cooking classes and a range of lectures covering creativity, leadership and even flirting). The committee, comprised of volunteer Carat staff members, has even brokered the loan of a Sleep Pod from beauty and wellbeing brand This Works for the month. The Sleep Pod will serve as a designated nap station and This Works will be sponsoring a ‘sleep challenge’ amongst the Carat staff.
This is the fourth year Carat have funded and produced a wellness scheme. The first, in 2012, offered a week’s worth of activities. However, the feedback was so positive that the agency now funds a full month of activities. Indeed, this year ‘Wellness Month’ may well be repeated again in September.
 “This is also a ‘passion project’ for some really committed people across the business that gives them a chance to express themselves and give something back to the Carat community,” said Hook. “This ever-expanding initiative, alongside our legendary Carat Players theatre company and an array of other creative and sporting projects, are cornerstones of what makes us special as an agency. I am also secretly a very enthusiastic table tennis player so I can't wait to get stuck in!”
