Dentsu Aegis Newcastle supporting St Oswald's Hospice
This year, Dentsu Aegis Network, Newcastle, joined a fantastic local charity, St Oswald's Hospice, as a member of their Better Together Business Club. St Oswald's is a Children's Hospice, based in Newcastle, providing care, love and support to babies, children and young adults with complex needs.
Having only started this partnership in the summer, our Newcastle office has already achieved 'Champion' status due to the amount of money they have raised.
The amount raised so far is currently standing at £917.00, which will pay for almost 48 hours' worth of specialist palliative care. This will make a huge difference to the life of someone in the North East who is currently facing a terminal illness; and this specialist care will support their families too!
So far, the money has been raised in a couple of way, the most innovative being a Charity Week, organised in partnership with the charity. The Premise of the week was to put all our teamwork skills into action to raise vital funds and awareness for an amazing cause. The selected challenges tested participants bravery, initiative and teamwork skills all for the coveted title, "The Ultimate Charity Challenger".
The week kicked off on Monday morning with Newcastle's 34 employees being split into five teams, who chose team names before being briefed on the exciting activities to come.
Throughout the week, the teams were challenged to place collection cans inside locations where they would raise money, for example – a shop, community centre, a pub or café, visit a local supermarket to take part in a bag packing session, promote Elmer's Great North Parade across social media and to inspire people to donate to the children's hospice, and finally each team was given a weird and wonderful object that they needed to sell, whatever way they could!
Teams were awarded points throughout the week, and things got competitive!
The week culminated in a fun craft afternoon where, inspired by the charities Elmer's Great North Parade, each team had to make their own elephant!
As well as this, staff recently raided their own wardrobes and collected 13 bags of clothes to donate to the charities retail shops, helping them raise even more money. Everything our Newcastle office has raised will go directly to the hospice, so that they can continue to provide care for terminally ill babies, children, young adults and adults, whilst supporting their families too.
Jessica Murphy, Senior Fundraiser – Business Partnerships said, "From your bag pack alone, you will have provided over 24 hours' worth of nursing care for somebody facing a terminal illness – which is incredible."
Dentsu Aegis Newcastle will continue to support St Oswald's Hospice throughout the rest of this year, and beyond.
