At Carat, we believe that taking our social and environmental responsibility seriously will help us redefine media. This is because in today’s world our clients, our people and consumers alike are motivated by concerns beyond a narrow economic one.
The vision for our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, Future Proof, is to not only become a more responsible business, but also to inspire positive action by everyone we come into contact with and together redefine the value of media. Future Proof means doing the right thing in our day-today business. We have the scope and reach to make a positive impact on society using the power of advertising.
We want to play an active role in strengthening our communities and in preserving the environment where we operate. Here are some examples of how we are working with the community in Manchester:
Read to Succeed
As part of its Future Proof sustainability strategy, we wanted to make a positive contribution to the local community, through volunteering to help young people with their reading. We started the Read to Succeed Scheme in July 2013 to help build children’s confidence in reading and speaking English through half hour guided reading sessions every week. We started again in 2014 and are just coming to the end of our second year of collaboration with the Rolls Crescent Primary School in Hulme.
Last year we ran an environment awareness programme we called Green Week, which ran from the 20th to the 24th of October. The aim of the week was to raise awareness of Corporate Social Responsibility matters and to ensure that as a company we are adopting the best sustainability practices going forward. The week was divided up into 5 days of events based around 5 topics: transport, food & water, litter, energy & recycling. Colleagues from various departments had a chance to collaborate and get stuck into the many workshops and volunteering opportunities that were scheduled.
The Prince’s Trust
On Friday 19th June, we welcomed ten young people from the Prince’s Trust for a taste of working life. This was our first event with the Trust and comprised a full day of hosted events, from a tour of the agency, an introduction to our business and how we work and the disciplines that support it. We also organised a workshop for them to round off the day.
We support The Prince’s Trust initiative, both in terms of resource to support young people and give them confidence with a view to helping them into the work place, as well as ultimately organising a 'ready for work' strategy.
