After graduating from York where I studied Leisure Management and Psychology, I headed to London to start my media career at Dorland Advertising in London. In 1997 I moved to the client side and joined Scottish & Newcastle in Edinburgh as Director of Media and continued to build my career with roles at Coca-Cola and BT; both of which saw me weekly commuting between Edinburgh and London.
I joined the Dentsu Aegis Network in January 2015 in the newly created role of Managing Partner, Scotland. With our Carat, iProspect and AMNET brands physically located in the same office in Edinburgh. As part of the Dentsu Aegis Network, we have a great opportunity to lead the market here in Scotland as the media world becomes increasingly digital and data driven.
I’m especially interested in developing and managing high performing teams that help our clients deliver and exceed their business goals.
Out of work I’m married and have 2 amazing, sports mad boys so weekends are never quiet! Rugby, Skiing, Golf and walking my dogs are my favourite hobbies.
I have been the leading practitioner in the Scottish media agency market for close to two decades, having successfully built the biggest independent agency in the market - MediaVision - before it's acquisition by leading global communications group, Dentsu Aegis Network, and subsequently highly successful merger with Carat Edinburgh. Currently CEO of the enlarged Carat business, my passion for delivering a combination of world-class client service with innovative, commercially effective media communications plans for my clients burns as brightly as ever.
I’m privileged to work with some outstanding client companies, and to have a helicopter view of the commercial and operational challenges they face. Helping them to unlock some of the answers to those challenges via intelligent use of media is perhaps the most satisfying part of my role. That, and working with a fantastic group of media professionals within the DAN businesses in Scotland, the UK and Internationally.
Outside of work, my passions include both travel – with Burma and Brazil amongst my favourite recent destinations, and working within the broader Scottish business community to promote learning and development, and both charitable and philanthropic causes.
I developed an interest in buyer behaviour whilst studying Business at UWE and a career in marketing was born. My first role was as a media analyst for Heineken UK in London on their graduate scheme, this was followed by brand management roles on drinks brands like Beck’s, Kronenbourg 1664 and Foster’s. Shortly after a sabbatical spent travelling I joined RBS group filling various roles including latterly Brand and Marketing Director. Whilst MD of Carat, Edinburgh I’ll focus on building a great team and delivering insight driven plans for our clients. At home I like hanging out with my kids (Peter 6 & Penny 5) and eating/drinking/trail running.
I joined the media agency world back in 1997 with a passion for understanding consumers and what makes people tick. I set up the first media agency insight team in Scotland and made my way through the ranks at Feather Brooksbank building expertise in strategy and marketing and joined the Board in 2005. Having spent most of my career in Edinburgh, I did a three year stint in Manchester helping to grow our client base there before moving back to Edinburgh in 2011.
When I’m not working I enjoy cooking, running, horse riding, shopping and spending time in France.
