Carat Melbourne Participates in The Big Issue Community Soccer
On Friday 27 March, 11 energetic representatives from Carat Melbourne participated in The Big Issue’s Community Street Soccer tournament at Port Phillip Prison.
Carat has been a long-standing media partner of The Big Issue, and both parties are always eager to find new ways to engage and deepen the relationship.
Community Street Soccer operates throughout Australia, and strives to create positive outcomes for the marginalised and disadvantaged through social interaction and exercise.
Three times a year, The Big Issue invite corporate partners and affiliates to compete with and against the prisoners.
The day was an opportunity to understand the importance of partnering with The Big Issue, seeing first-hand one of their many outreach programs. Though the play of the day was soccer, time off the field was spent getting to know the prisoners who valued having some friendly and fresh faces on the ground.
While Carat as Grand Final victors took home the Prison Shield, there was equal congratulations for all teams, each participant walking away with a small memento and team photo.
As the visitors bade goodbye to the prisoners and supervisors, there was a palpable sense of positive energy being left behind, with new perspectives taken into the outside world.
Carat would like to thank staff at The Big Issue and Port Phillip Prison for making the day possible.
