UK set to be the biggest spender in Digital Media
The latest forecast from eMarketer shows that this year the UK will ‘become the first country in the world where half of all advertising spend goes on digital media’. 
The report says: "Just over L16.2bn will be spent on all forms of advertising in the UK this year" across all media channels,  however digital advertising is set to increase spend by ‘12% to L8.1bn, making the UK the first country in which L1 in every L2 will be spent on digital media’.  
This is definitely a wake-up call to any brands who are still only dipping their toes in digital – if you are not there you are missing out. 
Rumours circulate that Amazon is set to acquire Net-A-Porter
Could Amazon be set to make their biggest acquisition ever? There have been reports circulating that Amazon could be set to pay just under $2 billion euros for Net-A-Porter. 
Both companies have declined to comment however this move does fall in line with what Jeff Bezos, the CEO and founder of Amazon, has said previously about wanting to ‘sell fancy clothes’ as well as hiring Caroline Palmer from Vogue as its new director of editorial and social. 
What this could mean for Amazon, is that it brings in a new audience for them; those who are indulgent purchasers and who are more likely to spends hundreds or thousands online for products. It will also increase their traffic significantly, as Net-A-Porter reportedly receives 2.5 million hits a month. 
Yesterday the Aussies swept aside New Zealand to win the 2015 cricket world cup. The emphatic victory comes only four months after the tragic death of Phillip Hughes, the Australian cricketer who collapsed after being hit by a ball on the back of the head. 
When the news of Phillip Hughes death reached Paul D Taylor, he leant his cricket bat against his front door as a mark of respect. He took a picture and posted on Twitter along with the hashtag #PutOutYourBats. He could not have foreseen the international show of support that was to follow, as people and organisations all over the world posted similar pictures.

Periscope vs Meerkat
You will all have heard the buzz surrounding Meerkat, the social live streaming app that was a huge hit at SXSW earlier this month. Well, last week Twitter launched a rival app called Periscope and it looks set to give Meerkat a run for their money. Click here to see how it works.
The app functions in the same way as Meerkat but a couple of small, key differences seem to have set Periscope apart in the eyes of the experts.
Sam Shaffer, social media manager at The Verge said, “Right now we definitely like Periscope better. The main difference between Meerkat and Periscope is that Periscope broadcasts can be watched for up to 24 hours after they end. Oftentimes, you'd open a  Meerkat only to find a dead stream with no way of replaying it.”  
The other difference that is chiming with users is that Periscope users can also "like" videos by clicking on hearts; there isn't a similar function on Meerkat. 
Whether both of these apps survive to live alongside each other remains to be seen but what is clear is that nascent live streaming apps are making headlines and brands are already getting on board:
“Brands like Red Bull and HBO are already on Periscope, as are a number of news publishers including NBC's Today Show, Huffington Post, Vox and USA Today. Twitter has also tapped a number of celebrities to try out the app, including Aaron Paul, Mary J. Blige and Adam Shapiro.”
Many Carat brands could use live streaming effectively to increase buzz around product launches or perhaps to bring users closer to the action at exclusive live events.
Air Bites

Everyone’s a winner, the local cook makes some extra cash and the tourists try real, home-cooked food at bargain prices. As with Air BnB, the visitors will leave a review to ensure you are buying a service that comes recommended.
